Tranquil
Valley
offers full range of therapeutic massage services
Massage therapy is the systematized manipulation of
soft tissues to help them return to normal. Practitioners use a variety of
physical methods including applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, or
causing movement to the body. Therapists primarily use their hands, but may also
use their forearms, elbows, or feet. The basic goal of massage therapy is to
help the body heal itself and to increase health and well-being.
One of the newest services at Tri Valley Health System is
Tranquil Valley Health Spa,
a full range of massage and therapy services for
medical patients and the public.
Abbie Benson, a graduate of Myo Therapy Institute of
Lincoln, has joined Tri Valley
as a full-time massage therapist and instructor. She serves at three locations:
the newly created Health Spa located inside the
Heritage
Plaza in Cambridge and the Medical Clinics in Arapahoe
and Indianola.
Massage sessions are by appointment. Sessions are scheduled
in Indianola Tuesday, Arapahoe Friday and Cambridge Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
"I recommend that massage therapy begin with a Swedish
Massage," Abbie said. She asks that those getting massages allow an hour for
their sessions.
Massage therapy is open to public use or may be prescribed
by a physician. "Doctors prescribe therapy for such conditions as fibromyalgia
and chronic fatigue syndrome," Abbie said. The doctors' scrip makes the
treatments eligible for insurance reimbursement.
Abbie is a Licensed Massage Therapist and has national
certification. She specializes in Pre-Natal Massage and is a Doula, which allows
her to give massage assistance during childbirth. She also teaches yoga and is
becoming certified to teach T'ia Chi techniques.
